For some people the Dvorak layouts help increase typing speed by repositioning keys in a layout that optimizes frequency of use. Likewise, one-handed typists can use the left or right-handed Dvorak layouts to increase typing performance. The Chubon layout was developed especially for single-digit typists and people using a headwand or mouthstick in an effort to increase typing speed. Some are quieter than others, and some have the ability to print Braille characters on both sides of the paper (called interpoint). Others can print Braille and English on the same page. Before printing text on an embosser, the document must first be translated into Grade II Braille using software called "Braille Translator" from Duxbury Systems. The keys to this conversion process are two tools: a scanner and optical character recognition (OCR) software. A scanner is similar to a copy-machine: it photographs a written page or picture and gives a representation of it on the computer's screen. Once the item has been scanned, the OCR software decodes the text so that the information may be spoken aloud or printed on a Braille embosser. There are dozens of different scanners and optical character readers. Speed and accuracy are two important considerations when comparing different products.
